Sometimes a new step for Waxer.EU does not begin with a record shop, a business trip or one special collection that you can see in a single room. Sometimes it begins much bigger than that, with sea containers full of 7 inch singles, a long journey across several countries and a warehouse full of pallets that still need to be opened.
A while ago, we bought a very large batch of 7 inch singles in America. It was the kind of purchase where you know it is big, but only really understand the scale when the pallets are standing in front of you. We are talking about roughly 5 truckloads of singles, with around 33 pallets in a truck and about 10,000 singles on each pallet. That is not just a collection. That is a serious amount of music waiting to be discovered.
Because Waxer.EU is part of VinylFarm.EU, we are used to working with large amounts of vinyl. Still, a shipment like this is special, even for us. These are not just boxes that you quickly open and list online. This is a project that takes time, space, sorting, photography and a lot of patience.
The photo shows the actual pallets we bought. All those boxes are filled with 7 inch singles that came from America. When we first looked at the collection, we had only a few hours to dig through it. We saw enough to get excited, but of course you can never see everything when you are dealing with this kind of volume. At some point, you have to trust your experience, your feeling and the fact that you know there is something interesting hidden inside those boxes.
That is also what makes it exciting. We do not know exactly what we bought. We know what we saw during those first hours, and we know the general feeling of the collection, but most of it is still a surprise. Every pallet can contain something unexpected. Every box can bring records that have not been seen, played or sold in years.
After we bought the collection, the long journey started. The singles first had to travel from America to the UK. From there, you would expect the shipment to go through Dover, then through France and finally to the Netherlands. But for some mysterious reason, this shipment took a different route. It went from the UK to Denmark first, and from Denmark it finally came to us.
That makes the story even more unusual. These small 7 inch singles have already travelled a long way before they even reach Waxer.EU. From America across the ocean, then to the UK, then to Denmark and finally to our warehouse. And now, after all that travelling, the real work begins.
For Waxer.EU, this kind of shipment is exactly why we started the platform. A 7 inch single may be small, but every single can have its own story. It can be a soul record, a forgotten pop single, a jukebox classic, a strange local release, a radio hit or something that has almost disappeared from view completely. The only way to find out is to start opening the boxes one by one.
At Waxer.EU, we do not want to hide these records behind stock images or standard database pictures. Every single that goes through our process gets its own real photos. The front is photographed, the back is photographed and the customer can see the actual item they are buying. That is a lot of work, especially with a shipment this size, but it is also the reason Waxer.EU feels different.
For us, this is not just about adding many new products to a webshop. It is about taking a huge amount of old records and giving them a real chance again. These singles have already had a life before they came to us. Some may have been in jukeboxes, some may have been in private collections, some may have been stored away for years. Now they get the chance to be found again by collectors, DJs and music lovers all over the world.
That is what makes a shipment like this so much fun. You know there will be common records inside, but you also know there will be surprises. Maybe there are rare soul singles. Maybe there are strange forgotten releases. Maybe there are records we have never seen before. We simply do not know yet, and that is part of the adventure.
The coming period will be very important for Waxer.EU. These American 7 inch singles will slowly move through our system. They will be sorted, checked, photographed and added online step by step. It will not happen all at once, because we want to do it properly. But every day, more of this collection will become visible.
