Boots Randolph And His Combo - Mickey's Tune / I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen

Description
“Mickey’s Tune” meets “I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen” in a pairing that brings instrumental playfulness alongside a song with deep roots in popular tradition. Boots Randolph And His Combo give the release its center of gravity: Randolph was a saxophonist, and saxophone jazz has a way of carrying a melody with both warmth and a little swing. The single appeared on Houser Monument as 45-852, placing these contrasting titles together without asking either to lose its character. One turns toward a tune of its own; the other returns to a familiar song. It’s a neat reminder of how readily a saxophone can move between jazz and popular song.
