Billy Joel - The Longest Time / Christie Lee

Description
A little doo-wop goes a long way. Billy Joel brings that close-harmony tradition into pop-rock on this 1983 single, pairing “The Longest Time” with “Christie Lee.” Doo-wop grew from small-group singing, where interlocking voices and memorable refrains made the song itself feel like the gathering place; here, that familiar vocabulary meets Joel’s songwriting. The Columbia release, catalog number 38-04400, captures a moment when an older vocal style could still sit comfortably in contemporary pop. The pairing makes a neat introduction to two titles from Joel’s early-eighties work, with doo-wop’s enduring appeal resting in its simple pleasure: voices finding their way together.
