Bobby Brown - My Prerogative / My Prerogative

Description
Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” appears on both sides of this 1988 7-inch single, giving the title a strikingly direct presence. Brown is an R&B singer, and the record sits where New Jack Swing meets pop rap: a lively late-’80s blend that brought hip-hop rhythms into the polished, dance-minded world of contemporary soul. That meeting of approaches gives the single its place in a tradition of R&B continually reshaping itself around the sounds of the moment. Issued in the USA on Mca Records, catalog MCA-53383, it captures a period when rhythmic innovation was becoming central to popular soul.
