Boy George - Girlfriend / Don't Take My Mind On A Trip

Description
A little pop-soul goes a long way. Boy George brings a dance-pop setting to “Girlfriend,” while “Don't Take My Mind On A Trip” gives this 1989 single a second title to linger over. The two songs sit at the meeting point of polished pop and the rhythmic snap of New Jack Swing, a late-’80s style that brought hip-hop-influenced beats into sleek, melodic songcraft. That blend makes the record feel rooted in its moment without losing the warmth at pop’s heart. Issued on Virgin as 7-99272, it catches Boy George in a period when pop’s dancefloor pulse was changing shape.
