Calloway - I Wanna Be Rich / I Wanna Be Rich

Description
Calloway puts “I Wanna Be Rich” right at the heart of late-’80s R&B, where funk’s rhythmic snap met the sleek, forward motion of New Jack Swing. The title has a bold, playful directness, and its return on the flip keeps the song’s central idea in view. This 1989 Solar release, catalog number ZS4 74005, belongs to a moment when contemporary R&B was finding fresh ways to bring dance-floor energy and polished pop craft together. Funk has always made room for ambition and a little swagger; here, Calloway gives that spirit a concise, memorable name: “I Wanna Be Rich.”
