Kapp’s 1972 single catches Cher in the richly expressive territory where pop and rock meet. “Living In A House Divided” and “One Honest Man” bring two striking titles together, with Cher at the heart of a record shaped for the immediacy of the single. Pop rock thrives on that meeting of direct songwriting and rock’s added edge: concise songs can carry complicated feelings without losing their sense of momentum. Here, the contrast between the two titles gives the release its own small narrative, while leaving each song room to stand on its own. Kapp K-2171 is a vivid marker of Cher’s pop-rock work in 1972.
