Dobie Gray - City Stars / Drift Away

Description
Decca’s 1973 release, catalog number 33057, brings Dobie Gray together with two songs that show the range of his voice: “City Stars” and “Drift Away.” Gray was a soul singer, and that tradition gives even a pop or soft-rock song room for both intimacy and lift. Here, the pairing sets a less familiar title beside the enduring pull of “Drift Away,” inviting a closer look at the artist beyond a single signature song. Soul has always made space for personal feeling within accessible melodies, and Gray’s place between soul, pop and rock makes this single a fine example of that open-hearted meeting.
