Doug Harrell - Hospitality Blues / Exsanguination Blues

Description
Colonial’s CR-501 pairs Doug Harrell with two wonderfully offbeat titles: “Hospitality Blues” and “Exsanguination Blues.” Comedy and novelty records have long made room for the blues as a playful language, borrowing its familiar name and expressive tradition to give a joke an extra turn. Harrell’s single sits in that spirit, where the contrast between warm welcome and a decidedly dramatic word promises a light touch rather than solemn blues storytelling. The titles are the invitation, and their unexpected pairing gives this release its own little comic premise. It’s a reminder that the blues can be a musical tradition and, in pop’s hands, a springboard for mischief.
