Eddie Truman - Stephen Foster Favorites / Stephen Foster Favorites

Description
American folk song carries the kind of melody that can feel both familiar and newly discovered, especially when it draws on the songs of Stephen Foster. Eddie Truman brings that tradition into focus on “Stephen Foster Favorites,” a title shared by both sides of this Tops single, catalog number 45-R1040. Foster’s songs have long traveled through different voices and arrangements, their plainspoken tunes making room for intimate expression as well as communal singing. Here, the pairing of American folk song with organ instrumental points toward two ways of meeting that repertoire: through song and through melody alone. The enduring appeal lies in how readily these tunes invite another telling.
