Electric Light Orchestra - I'm Alive / Drum Dreams

Description
Jet Records’ 1980 UK single, JET 179, catches Electric Light Orchestra at the point where pop-rock’s appetite for big, vivid arrangements met the dancefloor pulse of disco. “I’m Alive” brings the song title right to the front, while “Drum Dreams” offers a second doorway into this soundtrack-linked release. ELO’s music often drew on the grand gestures of rock and the bright immediacy of pop; that meeting makes sense in a record shaped for the screen, where a song has to establish its world quickly. The pairing also reflects a lasting pleasure of soundtrack music: a strong melody can carry a scene beyond its moment.
