George Benson - Before You Go (Edit) / Unchained Melody (Edit)

Description
Warner Bros. brings George Benson’s 1979 single into focus with “Before You Go (Edit)” and “Unchained Melody (Edit),” two compact selections that place soul beside disco in a late-seventies setting. Benson is a guitarist and singer, and that combination gives this pairing a natural link to soul’s long conversation between voice and instrument. The record’s concise edits keep the attention on the songs themselves, while the familiar tradition of reshaping a standard sits alongside an original title. Issued as Warner Bros. WBS 8843, this USA pressing captures a moment when soul and disco readily shared the same space on a single.
