A little synth-pop shimmer meets the snap of pop rock here. Inxs bring that bright, restless blend to “On The Rocks” and “Devil Inside,” pairing electronic color with the direct charge of a rock song. Pop rock has always made room for both sides of that tension: a steady pulse you can follow, and enough edge to keep the melody from feeling too neat. This 1987 United States single appeared on Atlantic as 7-89144. Its two titles make a neat pairing, with the playful turn of “On The Rocks” set beside the darker-sounding name “Devil Inside”—a contrast built right into the track list.
