Jesse Johnson's Revue - Free World / Can You Help Me

Description
Jesse Johnson's Revue bring a bright synth-pop edge to the soulful pull of “Free World” and “Can You Help Me.” Their A&M Records single, AM-2730, comes from a moment when electronic textures were finding fresh ways to meet funk and soul: crisp synthesizers could add a new sheen without losing the music’s warmth or rhythmic drive. That meeting of sounds gives these titles their place in a lively musical conversation, where melody and groove belong side by side. The Revue’s name carries a sense of performance and personality, while the record itself stands as a 1985 example of synth-pop’s connection to soul.
