Jim Gilstrap - Take Your Daddy For A Ride / House Of Strangers

Description
Jim Gilstrap brings soul’s expressive vocal tradition to the fore on “Take Your Daddy For A Ride,” a title that sets up a sharp turn toward “House Of Strangers.” The contrast between those names gives this 1975 single its own little narrative, while the music sits in the meeting place of soul and funk: a tradition built on feeling, rhythmic insistence, and the human voice at its center. Issued by Roxbury Records as RB 2013, the release belongs to an era when soul could move easily between intimate storytelling and dance-floor pulse. Gilstrap’s name anchors both sides of this compact encounter.
