John Culliton Mahoney - Angel / Angel

Description
“Angel” appears on both sides here, giving John Culliton Mahoney’s single a quietly unusual sense of return: one title, held in the space of a small record. Folk has always made room for songs that travel lightly, carried from one voice to another and reshaped through repetition; folk rock brings that intimate tradition into conversation with a broader popular sound. On Amherst, AM-703, Mahoney’s “Angel” invites the listener to linger over how a familiar word can gather meaning simply by coming around again. The record’s double appearance of the same title is its concrete, memorable feature—and a reminder that repetition is part of folk’s storytelling life.
