John Livigni - Driving Back To You / Machines

Description
On Raintree’s 7-inch single RT 2204, John Livigni brings soul-jazz into a compact, groove-minded setting. “Driving Back To You” and “Machines” give the record its two distinct signposts, with the titles inviting a little curiosity while leaving the music to speak for itself. Soul has long made room for jazz’s looseness and rhythmic invention, letting a song’s pulse carry as much character as its melody; that meeting point gives this release a natural place in the tradition. Livigni’s pairing keeps the focus on the songs themselves, where soul-jazz’s appeal lies in the balance between shape and freedom.
