John Norris - Sweet Georgia Brown / Mexican Hat Dance

Description
This 1992 Eric Records 7-inch single, catalog number 323, brings John Norris to two well-loved tunes: “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Mexican Hat Dance.” Both have traveled far beyond their original settings, finding fresh life in jazz, where familiar melodies invite players to shape their own rhythmic turns and phrasing. That meeting of recognition and invention gives this pairing its appeal: the titles are instantly recognizable, yet each remains open to a performer’s touch. Issued in the USA, the single links two pieces with very different cultural roots through jazz’s enduring pleasure in reworking a melody and making it newly personal.
