Lodi - Happiness / I Hope I See It In My Lifetime

Description
Lodi sets “Happiness” beside “I Hope I See It In My Lifetime,” a pairing that gives this 1971 single its own quiet tension: one title reaches for a feeling, the other looks toward a future still to come. The two songs share the concise scale of a 7-inch record, where a thought has to find its shape quickly and leave room for the next one. On Motown, catalog number M1L 50031, Lodi brings an art-rock and pop-rock sensibility to the single form. The contrast between these titles invites a listener to consider how hope can live both in the present and just beyond it.
