Manfred Mann - John Hardy / Sha La La

Description
“John Hardy” and “Sha La La” make an intriguing pair: one title rooted in the long tradition of American folk ballads, the other carrying the easy, singable shape of pop. Manfred Mann brings them together on this United States 7-inch single, released by Ascot as Ascot 2165. The group’s rock setting gives the pairing a natural bridge between blues-rock grit and pop-rock directness, where an old narrative tradition can sit comfortably beside a concise, memorable song. “John Hardy” has traveled through generations of folk performance, while “Sha La La” points toward pop’s love of a simple, repeatable refrain. Together, the titles trace two enduring paths into popular music.
