Meco puts “You Gotta Hurt Me” beside “Blue Moon,” bringing two familiar song titles into a meeting of pop and screen-minded music. The contrast also points toward doo-wop’s lasting charm: its roots in close-knit vocal-group singing gave popular songs an intimate, human scale, even as the style travelled into new settings. On this 1981 release, the two titles share a place in Meco’s varied musical world, with Casablanca Record And Filmworks and catalog number NB 2339 marking the edition. “Blue Moon” has long belonged to the American songbook, while “You Gotta Hurt Me” adds a different title to the pairing.
