Neil Diamond - Jazz Singer / America

Description
Neil Diamond brings two distinct songs together on this 1980 single: “Jazz Singer” and “America.” The pairing sits at the meeting point of adult contemporary and soft rock, where a strong melody and direct songwriting can carry a song from intimate reflection to a more expansive, communal feeling. Diamond is a singer-songwriter, and that tradition gives these titles a natural connection: songs shaped to speak plainly while leaving room for a big, memorable refrain. Issued in the United States on Capitol, catalog number 4994, this 7-inch release captures a moment when polished pop and rock shared a broad audience. “America” gives the record its enduring point of connection.
