Pauli Carman - In The Heat Of The Night / In The Heat Of The Night (Instrumental)

Description
“In The Heat Of The Night” gives Pauli Carman’s Columbia single its title, with “In The Heat Of The Night (Instrumental)” carrying that title into a wordless counterpart. Carman is a soul singer, and the record sits in a tradition where funk’s rhythmic drive and soul’s expressive vocal presence meet in direct, compact form. That blend has always made room for both the voice and the groove to hold attention: a song can tell its story through singing, while an instrumental lets the underlying arrangement stand on its own. Issued in 1987 as Columbia 38-07290, this release puts those two ways of meeting the same song side by side.
