Pete Rugolo & His Orch. - Unknown Title A / That Old Black Magic / Early Stan

Description
On this Columbia 7-inch single, B-1855, Pete Rugolo & His Orch. bring a swing-era big-band setting to the fore. The credited title, “That Old Black Magic / Early Stan,” carries the intrigue here, joining the familiar song title with a second, more enigmatic phrase. Swing and big-band jazz thrive on the interplay of sections: brass and reeds can answer one another, while a steady pulse gives the arrangement room to move. That tradition makes even a brief release a doorway into the lively craft of arranging for a large ensemble. This USA pressing preserves a concise meeting of jazz, songbook memory and big-band style.
