Rafael Mendez - On The Sunny Side Of The Street / Fascination

Description
This Decca 7-inch single, catalog number 25624, brings Rafael Mendez to two familiar standards: “On The Sunny Side Of The Street” and “Fascination.” Mendez was a trumpeter, and that instrument has a natural place in the long conversation between jazz and popular song, where a melody can keep its shape while inviting a player’s own phrasing. Swing and easy listening meet in this pairing, with instrumental pop offering a welcoming route into tunes that have travelled well beyond any one performance. The titles make a graceful little match: one turns toward brightness, the other toward romance. Together they show how enduring standards stay open to fresh interpretation.
