Sammi Smith - The Marionette / Kentucky

Description
“The Marionette” and “Kentucky” make an intriguing pairing on this 7-inch single by Sammi Smith: one title suggests a figure under another’s control, while the other names a place. The titles leave plenty of room for the listener’s own story, without giving away either song. Smith was a country singer, and that connection brings the record into a tradition where concise songs can carry complicated feeling, with country’s plainspoken storytelling meeting the polish of pop. Issued in the USA on Mega, catalog number 615-0056, this release keeps its focus on two distinct song titles. Country music often finds its strongest stories in the tension between choice and belonging.
