Sammy Davis, Jr. - Love (Your Magic Spell Is Everywhere) / The Birth Of The Blues

Description
Sammy Davis, Jr. moves between two very different kinds of song here, and that contrast gives this Decca single its character. On “Love (Your Magic Spell Is Everywhere),” the title turns toward the enduring romance of the popular standard; flip it over for “The Birth Of The Blues,” a song that looks to the musical language of blues itself. Davis was a singer and entertainer, and this pairing puts those two traditions side by side: intimate popular songwriting and a broad, theatrical celebration of blues. Issued in the United States as Decca 9-29393, it leaves the listener with a lovely reminder of how many roads a song can travel.
