Skulnik Gossett opens with “It's Good To Be Alive,” a title that carries the buoyancy of Broadway storytelling, where a song can turn a character’s outlook into the heart of a scene. The musical’s Jewish and Zulu folk influences place that stage tradition in conversation with distinct musical cultures, bringing a broader folk context to its theatrical setting. Later, Menasha Skulnik takes the story to “Rivers Of Tears,” a title that shifts the emotional focus without asking us to guess at its sound or plot. Columbia’s KOL 6480 preserves both named performances as a meeting of musical theatre and folk-rooted tradition.
