The Manhattan Transfer - Clap Your Hands / Sweet Talking Guy

Description
On this 7-inch single, The Manhattan Transfer pair “Clap Your Hands” with “Sweet Talking Guy,” bringing a bright pop sensibility to sounds rooted in doo-wop and soul. Doo-wop’s close vocal harmonies grew from the pleasure of voices fitting together: a tradition built for memorable phrases and communal singing. Philly soul added its own polished, rhythmic character, while the era’s dance-minded pop began opening toward disco. That mix of older vocal craft and newer groove gives this pairing an appealing place in pop’s ongoing conversation with its roots. Issued by Atlantic as 45-3277, the single puts two distinct titles in a compact exchange between tradition and motion.
