The Pointer Sisters bring two different turns of phrase to this 1977 single: “Lonely Gal” on one side, “Having A Party” on the other. Both titles sit within a moment when soul was finding fresh company in the dance-floor pulse of disco, a tradition that made room for both feeling and movement. The group’s name carries a natural warmth here, set against the playful contrast between solitude and gathering suggested by the titles themselves—without asking either one to explain the other. Blue Thumb issued the record as BT-275, a small piece of late-seventies soul and disco history whose two sides leave the listener with two distinct ways into the evening.
