The Statler Brothers - Whatever / Do You Know You Are My Sunshine

Description
The Statler Brothers bring country’s gift for turning a familiar phrase into a point of connection on this 1982 single. “Whatever” opens the conversation with a title that leaves room for a listener’s own meaning; “Do You Know You Are My Sunshine” answers with a question drawn from the language of affection and reassurance. Together, the songs suggest the easy exchange at the heart of country music, where direct words can carry warmth without dressing themselves up. Released in the United States on Mercury, catalog number 76162, the single keeps its focus on those two distinct titles—and on the lasting appeal of a well-turned phrase in a song.
