The Westbound Strings / Byron Mac Gregor - America The Beautiful / Americans

Description
Two very different voices share this 1973 single: The Westbound Strings take up “America The Beautiful,” while Byron Mac Gregor delivers “Americans.” One reaches for the familiar language of a patriotic song; the other brings spoken-word expression into the same conversation. That meeting of music and speech gives the record its distinct character, with each side offering a separate way to consider American identity and its symbols. Westbound Records issued the release as W 222 in the United States. The pairing reflects a long tradition of popular records setting familiar songs alongside spoken commentary, inviting listeners to hear a national idea from more than one angle.
