Thompson Twins - Rollunder / King For A Day

Description
This 1985 US 7-inch single pairs the Thompson Twins’ “Rollunder” with “King For A Day,” two titles that capture the concise, forward-looking spirit of synth-pop. Electronic music found a special kind of immediacy in the 1980s: synthesizers could carry a melody, establish a pulse and make a pop song feel newly streamlined, all in the space of a few minutes. Here, the contrast between the two titles gives the release its own small narrative, moving from “Rollunder” to “King For A Day” without asking either side to stand in for the other. Issued by Arista as AS1-9450, it’s a focused piece of the decade’s pop vocabulary.
