Valentino - Liberation / I Was Born This Way

Description
Valentino’s 1975 single on Gaiee Records, B 7640, brings “Liberation” together with “I Was Born This Way,” a pairing that places two vivid titles in the wide, restless musical world of calypso, soul, disco and reggae. Calypso has long carried Caribbean rhythms into popular song, making room for wit, movement and personal expression; here, the idea of liberation sits beside a declaration of identity, without needing either title to explain the other. The record’s blend of styles reflects the open borders of mid-1970s popular music, when dance traditions and newer sounds could meet on a compact single. Valentino leaves us with freedom and self-knowledge as enduring themes.
