Vikki Carr - It Came Upon A Midnight Clear / Wind Me Up

Description
Columbia’s 1974 single pairs Vikki Carr’s “It Came Upon A Midnight Clear” with “Wind Me Up,” bringing a seasonal standard into conversation with the polished world of adult pop. Carr is a pop singer, and this pairing catches two familiar pleasures of vocal pop: the enduring pull of a song carried across generations, and the concise, personal focus of a single performance. The carol’s title reaches back to a tradition of songs that return each winter, while “Wind Me Up” gives the release a contrasting companion. Issued as Columbia AS 85, this 7-inch offers a small meeting of seasonal tradition and mid-century pop songwriting.
